Can You Do It for Exposure?

Sadly, THIS is an ongoing problem for any freelance artist. Hell, it is a problem for just about anyone who works freelance all together!

You are out there, working hard, connecting with clients, perfecting your craft, and someone comes along and says, "Your work is GREAT! I want it, but I can't pay you for it!"

The truth is, most of the time that is a LIE. The truth is our society has developed this attitude that they don't HAVE to pay for art. That the artist simply do it because they "love" it. But we live in a money based society. Our food, shelter, education, AND our entertainment ALL depend on our income. And even an artist has to eat!

So the next time someone tries to get you to work for FREE think about these 3 points from Maria Brophy, an Art Business Consultant...

#1.Your art is a CONTRIBUTION to society. It brings joy, it solves problems, and it makes this world a better place.

#2. Being paid ALLOWS you to make that contribution to society.

#3. Your contribution expands in relation to the amount of time you put into it. More hours = expanded contribution to this world with your (God)-given talent.

Share YOUR links below so I can see YOUR art and I will share a few on my social media!

And go check out Maria Brophy! I love her attitude and spunk!
